Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, evil spirits, and malevolent powers increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of this adventure follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of characters who will separate from the main group to undertake their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group features Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team understands precisely where to head next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a nasty location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the group access locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Seekers and Strategists groups.

Fans can expect discovering which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
